BIG THANKS to recent donors Mel Ostrowski, Kim Leavitt and Steve Murphy!

Hello and thanks for visiting my website! This site was created as a way to support Elephant Energy  in its efforts to help rural communities improve their livelihoods and protect the natural environment by daring to donate!

THE NEED

While the Caprivi Region of Namibia has stunning landscapes and wildlife, its rural communities stuggle with poverty and lack of access to electricity.  People use energy sources which do not meet their needs, are unaffordable, bad for their health, and damaging to the local environment.

ELEPHANT ENERGY'S RESPONSE

Day-to-day activities can be made easier, safer, and more environmentally sustainable with the help of affordable, small-scale renewable energy technologies.   Elephant Energy disseminates low-cost technologies including solar-powered flashlights, which increase the amount of time available in a day for studying, empower women to safely travel alone at night, and allow farmers to protect their crops against nighttime wildlife destruction.  Fuel-efficient cookstoves reduce emissions and decrease the amount of wood needed to cook a meal, crank radios provide access to information, and solar cell phone chargers allow rural Namibians to communicate with family members.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Help Elephant Energy to meet communities' energy needs by daring to donate!  Here's how it goes:

Pick a dare- something crazy and outrageous, silly, brave or embarrassing for me to do.  Make a donation in any amount and submit the dare.  Every time the donations I receive hit the $100 mark, I'll attempt a dare. Go to the How it Works tab to learn more!

About Me

Hi! My name's Katie Murphy and in case you didn't already know, you've just arrived at my personal fundraising site where I'm raising money for the non-profit organization, Elephant Energy.

I'm currently at the tail end of a Master's program in International Development at the University of Denver and am soon packing up and leaving my comfy home here for Namibia, where I will volunteer with Elephant Energy.  This may be the most exciting challenge I've ever undertaken, and I can't wait to jump in.

Please peruse the site to learn more about the projects I'll be involved in while I'm in Namibia, and check back frequently on dares and daredeviling.  Shoot me an email if you want to get in touch!

Thanks for stopping by!
